The Disability Services Commission funds a number of organisations to provide respite and family support services. The aim of the program is to support families in their caring role and allow them to have a break from this role. At the same time it offers people with disabilities the opportunity to engage in activities of their choice and get out and about in the community.
This may mean someone coming into your home and looking after your family member with a disability or accompanying them to activities in the community that they are interested in.
Organisations funded by the Commission that can provide non residential services under the Respite Program can be found in the Directory of service providers under Service Type – Non-residential respite.
This may mean short-term stays away from home offered by organisations.

To find out more information about the Respite Program, contact one of the organisations that provide services under the Respite program. There are eligibility requirements that can be explained by the service provider.
Each organisation has a complaints procedure and will provide this if you request it. You should first talk directly with the staff from the organisation if an issue arises. If you feel your concerns are not being listened to or addressed, you should contact someone more senior to let them know.
