In June 2005, the Disability Services Commission launched the Disability Industry Plan 2005–2010. The plan was developed for, and by, the disability industry. People working for over 120 service providers across the State contributed to the plan, giving it a broad base of ownership and relevance. Its primary concern is ensuring that the services currently funded are able to achieve the best outcomes for people with disabilities and their families.
The vision of the plan is that:
Future disability services in Western Australia will remain contemporary and relevant, offering quality, choice and security to people with disabilities, while making the most effective use of available resources.
The plan, which can be accessed below, is supported by 30 strategies. The strategies identified within this plan will be progressed through industry consultation, collaboration and commitment. In addition, they will be used by the Commission to inform the development of its next Strategic Plan for 2006–2010.
It is envisaged that a review will be undertaken in four years time to examine the outcomes of the Disability Industry Plan strategies, which will document the achievement of identified aims, and will assist in informing the Strategic Plan for Disability Services 2010–2015.
The Western Australian disability industry has a good reputation for its service quality and continuous improvement and has often led the way in developing new approaches to service provision. The ‘Disability Industry Plan’ has been written to support service providers in this continuing process.
