Post School Options Program

The Post School Options (PSO) process is a means of providing information and support to eligible school leavers who may be eligible for Alternatives to Employment support.

The PSO process is for applicants who are unable to:

  • pursue full time studies;
  • sustain twenty hours or more of employment per week in a business or open employment service; or
  • pursue a combination of the above.

You may be considered for the PSO process if you meet the Disability Services Commission’s (the Commission’s) established eligibility criteria and have any of the following as your primary disability:

  • profound intellectual;
  • physical;
  • sensory;
  • cognitive; or
  • neurological.

You can apply for funding via the PSO process in your second-last year of school or if you have left school within the last two years. However, please note that people who receive a compensation payout or settlement must use these funds before applying for funding according to the Compensable Clients External Service Providers Information Sheet [DOC 264 kB] [PDF 40 kB].

If your application is successful you will be allocated Alternatives to Employment (ATE) funding. ATE programs are based on the needs and goals of the person. ATE programs focus on social participation, increasing independence, life long learning and enhancing natural support networks.

If you are interested in applying for this support please complete the Post School Options Process for Alternatives to Employment application form [DOC 254 kB] [PDF 289 kB].

For more information on the PSO process and/or ATE funding please view the following documents.

If you were asked to complete a RSVP Form [DOC 44 kB] [PDF 35 kB] at your Individual Needs Assessment please view the profiles of Alternatives to Employment contact list [DOC 212 kB] [PDF 25 kB] (as of March 2012) and make contact with the relevant service providers. The 2011 ATE Expo [DOC 1230 kB] [PDF 528 kB] provides an excellent opportunity for individuals and families to meet many of the ATE service providers at one venue.

If you are already in receipt of ATE funding and wish to transfer your funding to another ATE service provider, please complete the Transfer Request form [DOC 44 kB] [PDF 34 kB].

If you are in receipt of ATE funding and would like to request a review due to a change in your support needs, please complete the Changed Needs Review Request form [DOC 43 kB] [PDF 30 kB].
