Full-scheme, phased roll-out of the National Disability Insurance Scheme set to start
A joint announcement between the State and Commonwealth governments has been made about Western Australia’s transition to full-scheme NDIS. The Minister for Disability Services, Donna Faragher made the announcement at the annual NDS International Day of People with Disability lunch.
The announcement will see WA begin a phased, full-scheme roll-out of a state-based, locally-driven NDIS from 1 July next year.
The NDIS in WA will be completely nationally consistent in terms of key Scheme rules and core NDIS principles and provides an opportunity for the NDIS in WA to be shaped to best meet the needs of West Australians with disability.
The State and Commonwealth governments will now work closely to negotiate a bilateral agreement that consolidates the detail of the arrangement. Both governments recognise that these negotiations are complex and that it is important to get them right – including ensuring national consistency.
