Specialist equipment services

The Department of Communities (Disability Services) funds a number of specialist equipment services including:

Commission Equipment Therapy Team 
Rocky Bay – Posture Tech 
Independent Living Centre
Ability Centre – CP Tech

Disability Services Equipment Therapy Team

Disability Services provides services to improve the daily functioning of the individual and the efficiency of their home life through equipment provision and home modifications. They provide this service to eligible adults with an intellectual disability or autism, who live with their families, live by themselves, or by themselves with support.

Referrals are made directly to the Team Leader by phone: 6104 9531 or fax: 6104 9595 by any of the following:

  • the Local Area Coordinator
  • the individual
  • their family
  • GP
  • other health professionals.

The Equipment Therapy Team also provides a consultancy service to:

  • Disability Services' Early Childhood Development program
  • disability service organisations, the Health Department of Western Australia, local councils or others on issues such as home modifications and access issues, complex seating or dysphagia.

Rocky Bay – Posture Tech

Posture Tech is a service that provides support to therapists in the management of posture, function and mobility for clients who have disabilities. Support is provided through specialist consultations and the provision of equipment and technology.

  • For Disability Services' funded clients there is no charge for consultations; however manufacture, repair or supply of equipment must be funded through the person’s CAEP funding following a quote from Posture Tech.
  • For non-Disability Services funded clients, consultation and equipment provision is undertaken on a fee for service basis. Quotes will be provided for any services requested.

Independent Living Centre (ILC)

The Independent Living Centre of Western Australia (ILC) is a not-for-profit organisation staffed by experienced health professionals. The ILC aims to provide independent information and advice on assistive technology, funding and support services to enable informed choice and support independence and participation.

Ability Centre – CP Tech

CP Tech is a consultancy service that works with clients, families and therapists to assess and prescribe equipment or technology options for people with disability. It includes both clinical and workshop facilities and is staffed by occupational therapists, physiotherapists and speech pathologists with extensive experience in the following key areas:  

  • postural seating
  • mobility systems
  • modified daily living equipment
  • communication equipment
  • technology options
  • sleep solutions
  • home modifications.
