Down syndrome teachers’ workshop

Venue: Technology Park Function Centre, 2 Brodie-Hall Drive, Bentley

Julie Ireland and Jackie Softly will present a workshop for teachers and teachers’ assistants who teach students with Down syndrome.

Attendees can learn practical classroom strategies, using a person-centred approach, and how to work with the family to get the best outcomes for each student.

Topics to be covered in the workshop include:

  • the impact of health issues
  • communication, speech and language
  • classroom management
  • understanding behaviour
  • duty of care
  • social development
  • protective behaviours
  • literacy and reading
  • numeracy        
  • technology, apps.

The workshop cost is $240 per person (includes morning tea, lunch, GST).
