NDIS participant Rita Kleinfeld-Fowell shared her self-management journey at a Valued Lives workshop titled Self-management: A world of opportunity and her story captivated the large audience at the event.
Disability services provider Valued Lives hosted the workshop at Heathcote Reserve in Applecross on 11 September.
It was part of an event launch informing the audience about the Workforce Innovation through Self-Managed Supports website (https://www.selfmanagedsupports.org.au).
You can view Rita’s video on the website here.
Other presenters at the workshop included WAiS Individualised Services Advisor Maggie Visser and guest speakers from the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA), General Manager, Strategic Advisor and Research Dr Sam Bennett and Project Lead, Self-Management Project Marita Walker, who spoke about many aspects of self-management within the NDIS.
At the workshop, Marita said the latest NDIS Self-Management Guide is now available for download on the NDIS website (https://www.ndis.gov.au/medias/documents/sm-guide/Self-Management-Guide.pdf).
The guide is a good resource for NDIS participants who choose to self-manage their NDIS funds.
After the presentations, there was a panel discussion including a lively question and answer session on the topic of the day – self-management.
Feedback on this event was positive, with many participants saying the information was helpful, they enjoyed the shared stories and found the presentations informative and easy to understand.
They also said they would like to attend similar events in the future.
This project is an NDIS Information, Linkages and Capacity Building (ILC) initiative.
